Introduction to the CSA

The Combative Sports Act, 2019 (CSA) addresses requirements governing combative sport, including athlete safety and who can legally hold amateur combative sport events. The Commissioner, appointed under the CSA, has the authority to regulate licensing issues for individuals or businesses involved in combative sports.

Who Can Appeal and What Can Be Appealed?

Individuals or businesses who apply for a licence or event permit, or who currently hold a licence or event permit, under the CSA can appeal the following orders or intended actions by the Commissioner to the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT):

How to Appeal

If you received a Notice of Intention from the Commissioner or an Order for Immediate Suspension/Cancellation and wish to request a hearing/appeal, you have fifteen (15) days from the date you were served with the notice or order to submit a Notice of Appeal to the LAT.

You must complete a Notice of Appeal form and submit the complete form to the LAT. Appeals can be filed with the tribunal via e-mail to LATregistrar@ontario.ca or via mail to 15 Grosvenor Street, Ground Floor, Toronto, ON, M7A 2G6. To ensure your appeal is complete, please ensure you have included the following documents:

If the appeal is filed after the 15 days, a Notice of Motion requesting an extension of time to file the appeal must be included.
