How to Join a Virtual Proceeding

(Disponible en français)

Welcome.

In this video, we will show some ways to join a virtual proceeding before Tribunals Ontario, such as a hearing, mediation, or case conference.

Tribunals Ontario uses Zoom as its platform for video proceedings.

You may join a virtual proceeding using the Zoom app or by accessing Zoom through your web browser.

We encourage you test Zoom before your proceeding to confirm that the technology is working properly. Visit zoom.us/test to try a test meeting.

It is recommended to download the app for full functionality. However, both will allow you to connect to your proceeding.

First, we will show you how to join using the Zoom app.

You will receive a Notice by email or mail that contains a Zoom link.

Join the proceeding by clicking the link or typing it into your web browser’s address bar.

You will automatically be redirected to the Zoom Launch page.

If you don’t have the Zoom app already installed, scroll down and click “Download Now”.

If you plan to download the app, keep in mind it may take a few minutes to download.

The Zoom app should open automatically from the launch page, if it doesn’t, click ‘Launch Meeting’.

If you are using the Zoom app for the first time, you will be asked to enter your first and last name.

You may be placed into a waiting room, where you will stay until the host admits you into the proceeding.

Once you’re in the proceeding, there may be a pop-up box asking you to join with your Computer Audio. Click “Join with Computer Audio”.

You will now see the other participants and the controls available in Zoom.

You have now successfully joined the proceeding using the Zoom app.

Next, we will show you how to access Zoom using a web browser.

You will need to access through a supported web browser such as Edge, Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Zoom is not fully supported on Internet Explorer.

Check the Zoom support website at support.zoom.us to confirm which web browsers are supported.

Join the proceeding by clicking the link provided in the Notice. Or, enter it into your web browser’s address bar.

Once you click the Zoom link, you will be redirected to the Zoom Launch page.

Scroll to the bottom of the web page and click “Join from Your Browser”.

You will be asked to enter your first and last name, you can also add your pronouns. Click “Join”.

You may be placed into a waiting room, where you will stay until the host admits you into the proceeding.

You may be asked to enable use of your microphone; click “Join Audio by Computer”.

Once you’re in the proceeding, you will see the other participants and the controls available in Zoom.

You have now successfully joined the proceeding by web browser.

Thanks for watching this video! Remember, testing Zoom in advance will help prepare you for your virtual proceeding.
