With the recent passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, all new filings referring to the Crown should now use His Majesty the King.
This memo is to confirm that, where the Crown is a party to any proceeding commenced at a Tribunals Ontario body on or after September 9, 2022, the parties should refer to the Crown as “His Majesty the King,” rather than “Her Majesty the Queen.”
With respect to any matter commenced before September 9, 2022, the parties do not need to amend the style of cause of their proceeding. Instead, the Tribunals Ontario body at issue will consider the style of cause as having been amended. For that reason, any new filing and any decision issued in such proceedings should refer to the Crown as “His Majesty the King,” rather than “Her Majesty the Queen.”
