The LAT has updated Rule 23 of the Licence Appeal Tribunal Rules, 2023 related to LAT-GS appeals under sections 50 and 50.2 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
The updated Rule 23 provides that the Tribunal may, with respect to appeals under sections 50 and 50.2 of the HTA, provide oral reasons. The Tribunal will also provide reasons in writing when requested by a party either orally at the conclusion of the hearing; or in writing no more than 14 days after the hearing.
Effective November 17, 2025, a party seeking reconsideration of a decision made under sections 50 or 50.2 of the HTA must request written reasons.
