HRTO: Operational Update
Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario Continuing to Explore Ways to Streamline Processes to Resolve Applications More Efficiently

The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) is continuing to explore ways to streamline its processes to facilitate fair, just, and expeditious resolutions of the matters before it and reduce delays.

On June 1, 2025 the HRTO launched its first phase of Rule and process updates including the launch of mandatory mediation and updated processes for managing adjournments, rescheduling and extension requests.

The HRTO would like to once again thank those who participated and provided feedback in this first phase of Rule and process changes. Your input is crucial in making sure that the improvements we implement are in line with and support user and stakeholder needs and expectations. The HRTO continues to monitor these changes and will report back in the coming months.

For your information, the HRTO is planning the next phase of Rule changes and operational updates to further improve service levels and access to justice for those who appear before it. The HRTO is tentatively aiming to consult on these proposed changes in the Fall 2025, with implementation in the new year.

The HRTO appreciates your support as we continue to streamline our processes. We look forward to further engagement in the coming months and wish you an excellent summer.
